The Great Wall of China*
Now, now, I know what you're thinking, "Are you nuts"?. And the answer is yes, but that's besides the point.
Specifically I'm referring to the BaDaLing section and a mistake many people make when traveling there.
For those not in the know, the BaDaLing section of the wall is by far the most visited. It's also the section where you see a lot of this:
As impressive as the wall is (and it really is), nobody is going to like walking through all that.
I certainly didn't. The first time I did exactly what every tourist and their tour groups did: Went up the stairs to the right. After a painfully slow and hot trek, I found the entire reason people went this particular direction on the wall was to see some scribbles of Mao Ze Dong on a section of the wall. Interesting in some respects, I guess, but not worth the crowds.
However, every subsequent trip back there, I went up the stairs and to the left.
My goodness it was night and day. Compare the above picture with the empty, cool, misty morning picture (starring my brother)
This was a MUCH better way to experience the wall. Go left. Not right.
