The intersection of A1A and Las Olas is seen Sunday, June 28. Broward County announced it is joining Miami-Dade County and closing beaches on the July 4 weekend. (Joe Cavaretta/AP) The state of Florida has been on the forefront of the country’s reopening effort in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, but due to a recent spike in cases, many of its popular beaches will remain closed to residents and tourists during Fourth of July weekend. Miami will keep its beaches and parks  off-limits  from Friday, July 3, through Tuesday, July 7, while Fort Lauderdale announced a closure from July 3-5. These restrictions have been put in place due to fears from officials that, during the holiday, people won’t follow the rules put in place to limit the spread of the virus. Here’s What a Gram of Cannabis Costs in Cities Around the World

Here’s What a Gram of Cannabis Costs in Cities Around the World The world’s most expensive gram of cannabis can be yours for $32.66 on the illicit market in Tokyo. Want something legal and cheaper? Head to Quito, Ecuador, where the same weight of plant matter can be had for $1.34—and you can possess up to 10 grams without running afoul of the law. Those are the highs and lows according to a 2018 cannabis price index released Wednesday morning by  Seedo , the German company that manufactures small-scale hydroponic  grow devices . Seedo’s team of data experts selected 120 cities around the world—in countries where the plant ranges from highly illegal to adult-use legal—and surveyed street prices, store prices (where legal), and annual consumption totals. Family told slain Chinese scholar’s body may be in landfill

Family told slain Chinese scholar’s body may be in landfill CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The family of a visiting Chinese scholar whose body was never recovered after a former  University of Illinois doctoral student kidnapped and killed her  has been told the woman’s remains may be in a landfill in Vermillion County in central Illinois. The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports  that Steve Beckett, who represents the family of Yingying Zhang, says the information about the remains comes from attorneys representing Brendt Christensen. Christensen was convicted in federal court last month and sentenced to life in prison after prosecutors sought the death penalty. Since he was arrested after Zhang’s 2017 disappearance, Zhang’s family has repeatedly urged him to reveal what he did with the body so they can return it to China for burial. But Christensen didn’t disclose that information through his trial and sentencing.

Delivery drivers involved in Amazon theft ring, FBI says

Delivery drivers involved in Amazon theft ring, FBI says SEATTLE — The FBI says it’s awaiting records from Amazon to help determine the extent of a theft ring that sold millions of dollars’ worth of stolen goods using the online giant. A search warrant affidavit unsealed in Seattle says two contract Amazon delivery drivers were involved. Investigators said storefront businesses posing as pawn shops bought the goods from shoplifters and then resold them online. The FBI said in the past six years the ringleader had received at least $10 million selling items on Amazon. A police detective last summer started investigating after noticing that a driver had dozens of pawn shop transactions. No charges have yet been filed though investigators have raided the pawn shops and the home of the man identified as the ringleader.

Illusionist defies death with suit that is ‘invisible’ to sharks

Illusionist defies death with suit that is 'invisible'to sharks  https://youtu.be/-i3GgNffEWo He’s not quite the shark whisperer. But Andrew Mayne, an illusionist and magician, has managed to come up with a way to commune with the beasts unlike just about anyone else. In his very own customized diving apparel, dubbed “Ghost Diver,” Mayne can make himself virtually invisible to sharks. The suit works by manipulating light in the water, allowing Mayne to virtually disappear. “Next thing you know,”  Mayne told CNET,  “you find yourself 80 feet underwater surrounded by great whites going, ‘How the hell did this happen?” The daredevil showed off his new threads during a television special dubbed “Andrew Mayne: Ghost Diver” on Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” on Friday.
